Michelle de Kretser was born in Sri Lanka and lives in Sydney. Her novels have won the Miles Franklin award (twice) and the Prime-Minister’s Literary Award for Fiction, and she has been longlisted for the Booker Prize. Her most recent novel, Scary Monsters won the Rathbones Folio Prize for Fiction and was longlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize and the RSL Ondaatje Award. She is an honorary associate of the English Department at the University of Sydney.

Her latest novel Theory & Practice is published by Sort Of Books and won the 2025 Stella Prize.
