Beth Alexander
Beth Alexander is a chef, food writer, mum and lover of turnips and spends most of her time living and working in the south of England although her work takes her further afield. Her love of writing and story telling began with ghostly tales to spook school friends and has organically grown thanks to her many kitchen adventures. After completing a degree in Creative Writing and Cultural Studies at Bath Spa in 2006, life circumstances led her away from a move to London and food journalism and instead in to creating the dishes in the cafes and restaurants of her home town of Bath.
She happened upon cheffing on yoga retreats in 2014 in the Sabine Hills near Rome and fell swiftly in love with this way of creating menus with the intention of supporting people’s energetic healing experiences. Not simply ‘health food’, but intuitive cooking using simple seasonal ingredients with minimal waste whilst exploring all the flavours and textures and colours. Whether it’s cooking in the woods over fire, on an Aga in a luxury 13th-century castle, or a Moroccan kitchen with minimal facilities, no shared language and marauding peacocks, it has always come together. The menus adjust with not only the seasons but with the destination and the dietary requirements of the guests, from gluten-free and vegan to intolerances and serious allergies. It is during these adaptations where creativity thrives, and new dishes are invented.
She's told the stories and shared the recipes from her last 20 years working in food, providing articles for several publications including Italia, Gardens Illustrated, Simple Things and Crumbs Magazine. Her first cookbook was self-published in 2017 and for the last few years she's been responsible for recipe development for Lia Leendertz’s Almanac, Hodmedod’s and Bart’s. Her life is full of food, foraging, nature, growing, writing, making fires and jumping in cold water, sewn together with a desire to share all these positive glimmers through recipes and storytelling for all time.
